GAINING FROM LOSS

June 17, 2017

Saturday

Mark 9:35

Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”

LESSON

Jesus acted quickly to avoid greater publicity. Addressing the spirit as deaf as well as dumb heightens the difficulty of the exorcism which Jesus is performing and may carry some irony in that a deaf spirit should not be able to hear his command to come out but he makes it hear.

If we desire to be great in the kingdoms of men, we are setting ourselves up for a fall:”For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles

himself will be exalted.” If we desire to be great in the kingdom of God, let us humbly serve one

another and those in the world.

Memory Verse: John 12:24

“It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything.”
