Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

The idea in verse 4 is not just that Yahweh is the only God, but that He is also “one” unified person (thus a “mono-deity,” “one god”; the “triune,” or Trinity aspect of God, three Persons in one God). The LORD our God is one LORD stresses the uniqueness or exclusivity of Yahweh as Israel’s God. Yahweh was to be the sole object of Israel’s worship, allegiance, and affection.

As fathers we have a great responsibility to teach our families to love the Lord. God gives us the key ingredients to accomplish this purpose.  We believe that the Bible tells us everything we need to know about a Triune God. The Word of God is made surer in our command to Love the Lord our God. This same command is seen in our celebration of the Lord’s supper.

Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 4:24
“I sought to hear the voice of God and climbed the topmost steeple, but God declared: “Go down again – I dwell among the people.”
