2 Corinthians 11:3

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Paul’s critics were not just calling his apostolic authority into question. They were leading the Corinthians “astray.” The apostle communicated the seriousness of this seduction by comparing it with the serpent’s cunning deception of Eve. “The very future of the Corinthians as an apostolic church is in jeopardy. Genuine Christians can be, and are being deceived by false teachers, and

are abandoning their faith today. This sometimes happens when young people go off to college and conclude that what they learned in church is unscientific. It also happens when Christians accept the teachings of cultists who come knocking on their doors.

We are still continuing to tread on Holy Ground, where our noblest motives can be twisted so as to work against us. “Where is the fertile land of wonderful crops-the figs, vines, and pomegranates you told us about?”  Do these words ring a bell? Well, these are the words of the people on their way to the Promised Land who are seemingly more in love with the ‘land flowing with milk and honey’ than the Giver of the same to them, as this protest of theirs to Moses, seems to imply and implicate. We too as God’s children are walking towards an unseen “Heavenly Canaan on the other side of ethereal river Jordan”. Let me ask pointedly “Are we in love with that or with the Promiser of that great gift to us?”

Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 9:27

He who lives in our mind is near though he may actually be far away; but he who is not in our heart is far though he may really be nearby
