Hebrews 6:4-6

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,   And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame

Christians become “partakers” of the Holy Spirit through Spirit-baptism. Every true Christian has “tasted” the Word of God and found it to be “good” to some extent. The warnings are clearly not addressed to nominal Christians, but to those who have shared, as fully as it is possible to share in the present time, in the blessings which accompany and follow entry into the Christian life.

Falling away from the truth is not a hypothetical possibility, but a tragic reality in too many cases, among believers.  Christians departed from the faith in the first century, and they also do so today.

Let us heed this as a great and serious warning and may we never get even close to this place.

Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 9:27
He who lives in our mind is near though he may actually be far away; but he who is not in our heart is far though he may really be nearby
