PROCRASTINATION

November 12, 2016

Saturday

John 9:4

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

LESSON

Jesus later spoke of His disciples continuing His work. The “day” in view is probably a reference to the spiritual daylight generated by the Light of the World’s presence on the earth. Darkness would descend when He departed the earth and returned to heaven. The nighttime “when no one can work” may refer to the spiritual darkness that would engulf the world after Jesus departed this earth and returned to heaven. I doubt that this is a reference to the Tribulation.

To speak of life and death as day and night is so natural that one does not think of it as a metaphor. Every man has his day. One longer, another shorter; one bright, another shaded and even stormy. Then night falls perhaps suddenly, as in the tropics, where there is no twilight; perhaps with a gentle descent as in the north or south.
