Ability, Of Christ

Matthew 9:28

When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

Blindness was a distressingly common disease in Palestine. It came partly from the glare of the eastern sun on unprotected eyes, and partly because people knew nothing of the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. In particular the swarms and clouds of unclean flies carried

the infections which led to loss of sight.

Unbelief is blindness and salvation is illumination. Salvation begins with God’s causing light to shine in the darkness. Like Paul, people may be well versed in the knowledge of theology and Scripture, but until God shines in their hearts, they cannot see.It is the task of believers to present clearly to the unbelievers the truth of God’s word, to sow the seed as Jesus put it. But unless and until God causes you to see, it will not be understood and received. This should remind us that salvation is a miraculous work of God from the beginning to the end.
