1 Peter 1:22

Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,

LESSON

The purification to which Peter referred occurred at conversion as a result of believing the gospel. This cleansing made it possible for us to “love” other Christians “fervently,” unremittingly. Now Peter urged his readers to do everything out of “sincere love” for “the brethren” from the heart”. We do not need to love one another as though we were brethren. We can love one another because we really are brethren.

Why are we commanded to love one another fervently as brothers and sisters in Christ? God, our Heavenly Father, commands that His children are to love one another deeply.

Memory Verse: 1 John 3:8
