IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS

March 24, 2016

Thursday

Romans 1:17

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.”

LESSON

In this verse Paul explained what he meant when he said that when a person believes the gospel he or she is saved. What makes the gospel powerful is its content. The salvation that God has provided and offers is in keeping with His righteous character. What did Paul mean by “the righteousness of God”? For Paul, as in the OT, ‘righteousness of God’ is a relational concept. Bringing together the aspects of activity and status, we can define it as the act by which God brings people into right relationship with himself.

We are obligated in many ways in this life as Christians. We are obligated to men, to preaching and to our faith. But most of all, we are obligated to God. This verse contains life transforming truth. To understand and positively respond to this truth is to have your life and eternity completely altered.
