2 Thessalonians 2:15

Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

In view of their calling, Paul urged his readers not to abandon what he and his associates had taught them in person and by letter. He wanted them to “hold” firmly to the inspired instructions that he handed on to them. There is a distinction in the Pauline writings between the gospel received by revelation and the gospel received by tradition.

With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter. Do we desire to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ? May Paul’s words always serve to remind us how it is possible, and encourage us never to become slack in our dedication to the Word of God!
