David’s Regret

Psalm 6:6-7

I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping.  My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes.

David described his condition in extreme language to indicate how terrible he felt. Few men have taken their sins so seriously. Evidently David’s adversaries had been responsible for his condition to some extent, perhaps by inflicting a wound. “From my own experience and ministry, I’ve learned that sickness and pain either make us better or bitter, and the difference is faith.

David cried out to God, overwhelmed by his guilt, and found mercy. So can we. David relates to us the right way to deal with sin and regret: Sorrow, Supplication, and Success!
