CARING FOR STRANGERS

May 20, 2015

Wednesday

Deuteronomy 10:18-19

He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing. “So show your love for the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

LESSON

As the impartial and incorruptible Judge, God executes the judgment of the fatherless and widow, vindicates the right of the defenseless and as the God of the whole earth, he loved the stranger. He gave him food and raiment. Following in his example, Israel, as his people, were to be benevolent to the stranger, inasmuch as they themselves had been strangers in Egypt, and knew by experience what it was to be a stranger. They were to love the stranger as God loves him, by relieving his necessities.

The love that God shows, we are to show. Surprising love. Unexpected love. Unbelievable love.

Not only to one another, but to the outsider, to the alien, to the fatherless and the widow. Reflecting the real active love of God to the world we’re in.

Memory Verse: Jeremiah 22:3
