John 16:33

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

The ultimate reason for Jesus’ revelations about His departure, as far as His immediate disciples were concerned, was that they might experience “peace” in their relationship with Him. The tension that the victory of Christ and the opposition of the world pose for the Christian is not one that we can escape in this life. Despite this, it is still possible for us to be more peaceful than distressed, as we appropriate and believe the promise that Jesus has already won the victory.

Jesus knew the disciples would face trials, persecution, and death. He knew they would have grief. So he comforted them. And Jesus comforts us as well when we are having problems and face grief. You don’t have to allow the dramas of the world to overtake you. You can overcome the drama that is in your life by trusting in Jesus.
