Philippians 1:27

Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

To conduct yourselves in a manner worthy” literally means: “to live as a citizen. Paul realized that the people of Rome took great pride in being Roman citizens. The Philippian Christians, however, were citizens of a more important kingdom, a heavenly one. As such, they needed to be standing firm in one spirit. Philippi was a colony of Rome in Macedonia, and the church was a colony of heaven in Philippi.

Commitment to the truth of the gospel is needed in this messed up world. It seems like there is a real danger for the church in that, the stronger we try to hold to our beliefs, the greater the chance of disunity. Living life with a Godly purpose can be challenging for each one of us individually, but much more so corporately. Are we up for the challenge? The rewards are certainly worth it!
