Proverbs 10:19

When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

LESSON

Transgression” means to break across. When we speak too much, we break across into an area where we should not go. This can happen in private as well as public speech. Some people transgress when they engage in inappropriate transparency. Job did this when he claimed to be more righteous than he really was. We should only share our lives with people to the degree that they have committed themselves to us.

What comes out of our mouths can either energize someone or wipe them out. As we utilize words of life, we’ll build one another up instead of tearing each other down. Prudent speech begins with restraint in communication.
