Psalms 41:9

Even my close friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.

David continued to address the congregation of Israel, and he presented the alternative to caring for the helpless with its consequences. He did this by relating a personal experience. A former genuine friend of his had turned against him. David had more than one friend who later turned against him. Jesus quoted this verse and applied it to Judas. Judas is a warning to us that you can be close to Jesus and yet at the same time be far, far away.

So since there is so much opportunity for pain do we become hermits having no friends, spouses, children and hence no in-laws to avoid the pain? No, we were not wired for that. We are made in God’s image and He knowing the outcome still chose to create Adam and Eve so that He could love them and the race they would generate. What about you?
