Revelation 2:7
Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.

Two psychiatrists meet at their 20th college reunion. One is vibrant, while the other looks withered and worried. “So what’s your secret?” the older looking psychiatrist asks. “Listening to other people’s problems every day, all day long, for years on end, has made an old man of me.” “So,” replies the younger looking one, “who listens?”

The Ephesian church was an Apostolic church, founded upon the preachings of Paul the Apostle and they were a great church, on fire for God. But they too were losing their way and had to find a place of repentance if they wanted to walk with God. Along the road, they had hit some spiritual potholes that sent them off the way of righteousness and holiness, and they had to repair the holes, get back on the right path and get back to their first love before they would find themselves as an Apostate church, that had a form of religion but no real love for God.

This road of life often seems to have potholes that will throw us off course. We begin to go this way or that, and soon discover that we are off of the path that God desires us to use. That’s when the warning of Jesus to the church at Ephesus is given. Is your love for Jesus exclusive? Do you regularly take quality time to be with him? We must guard our “first love.”
