Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

EXAMPLE

The seven ages of man: spills, drills, thrills, bills, ills, pills, wills.

Richard J. Needham

LESSON

DESIRES!!! We all have them. Sometimes they are good, and sometimes they are bad. Scripturally we could say that unfulfilled desires are the source of all of the evil that exists in our world today. James, the half-brother of Jesus said, “But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lusts(desires), and enticed. Then when lust(desire) hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin, and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Again, in James 4:1-2 we read-“From whence cometh wars and fightings among you? Are they not hence, even of your lusts(desires) that war in your members? Ye lust and have not, ye kill, and desire to  have, and cannot obtain; ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.” So, it is because of unfulfilled desires that mankind does some of the evil things that we do.

We all face a variety of issues that threaten to make us stumble. Seeing the prosperity of the wicked caused the psalmist to question the goodness of God. The Psalmist’s affliction, while unpleasant, had the beneficial effect of drawing him closer to God. While there was an initial reaction of bitterness and complaint, he finally came to the point of worship and praise. Now, rather than dwelling on what material things he lacked, he delighted in the greatest blessing of all – having God as an intimate counselor and guide, a present and a future source of comfort and security.
